Measuring particularized trust: A name generator approach

چکیده
In the social sciences, trust scholars largely divide their interests between two streams of research: one on generalized and particularized trust. While recent developments in measurement have pushed literature forward, similar improvements to lagged behind. this article, I advance research by (1) developing an egocentric (EPT) instrument based a multiple name generator approach, (2) assessing EPT’s empirical performance across numerous psychometric tests. Results from general population quota sample ( N = 2041) indicate that EPT consists separate latent constructs, for personally known others (EPT-K) family members (EPT-F). Using traditional measures as benchmarks, find EPT-K EPT-F provide most valid reliable conclude discussing implications directions future research. • Uses approach measure (EPT). Confirms constructs: Suggests minimizing continued use favor EPT-F.

Interviewer effects in measuring network size using a single name generator
Name generators used to measure egocentric networks are complex survey questions that make substantial demands on respondents and interviewers alike. They are therefore vulnerable to interviewer effects, which arise when interviewers administer questions differently in ways that affect responses-in this case, the number of names elicited. Van Tilburg [Sociol. Methods Res. 26 (1998) 300] found s...
متن کاملMeasuring Trust
We combine two experiments and a survey to measure trust and trustworthiness—two key components of social capital. Standard attitudinal survey questions about trust predict trustworthy behavior in our experimentsmuch better than they predict trusting behavior. Trusting behavior in the experiments is predicted by past trusting behavior outside of the experiments. When individuals are closer soci...
متن کاملSyGAR - A Synthetic Data Generator for Evaluating Name Disambiguation Methods
Name ambiguity in the context of bibliographic citations is one of the hardest problems currently faced by the digital library community. Several methods have been proposed in the literature, but none of them provides the perfect solution for the problem. More importantly, basically all of these methods were tested in limited and restricted scenarios, which raises concerns about their practical...
متن کاملMeasuring and Modelling Trust
1 The growing literature on trust, social capital and well-being relies almost exclusively on a single survey measure of interpersonal trust: " Generally speaking, do you think that most people can be trusted, or that you can't be too careful in dealing with people? " Efforts at modelling response to this balanced question are becoming increasingly sophisticated. Notable recent examples include...
متن کاملMeasuring Human-Computer Trust
In this study a psychometric instrument specifically designed to measure human-computer trust (HCT) was developed and tested. A rigorous method similar to that described by Moore and Benbasat (1991) was adopted. It was found that both cognitive and affective components of trust could be measured and that, in this study, the affective components were the strongest indicators of trust. The reliab...
